"To provide an exciting environment to explore human sexuality and to acknowledge the freedom to do so."
In 1980, mother-daughter duo Phyllis Heppenstall and Kris Butt began hosting in-home parties and entertainment shows featuring lingerie, lotions, gifts and sexual wellness items. "My foray into this industry began when I read an article about a lady who was doing home parties and I thought it would be enjoyable to do," says Heppenstall.
Within 14 months, the first three Lovers stores were opened and Peekay, Inc. was born. What does Peekay mean? Simple: P is for Phyllis and K is for Kris. "Our unique shopping experience is targeted at women and couples. Our concept is to put every customer at ease and give them a comfortable, safe place to shop," says Heppenstall.
In 2006, Peekay celebrated its 25th anniversary with the extensive remodeling of its flagship store, Amour on the Boulevard. The company also re-branded its Lover's Package stores as simply Lovers, including the flagship store. Over the years, Peekay has expanded into California with the retail brands A Touch of Romance and ConRev. Today Peekay operates 31 retail stores, several websites and a wholesale division.
Phyllis and Kris are strong supporters of local charities and organizations. Phyllis speaks publicly, volunteers and donates financial support to domestic abuse and other women's and children's anti-violence programs. Peekay also supports and contributes to Lifelong AIDS Alliance , Planned Parenthood , WSCFF Burn Foundation and Breast Cancer Awareness.
